Happy solstice from Berneray

Today is the longest day, in terms of hours of sun-up. And subsequently, it's the shortest night. Here's a picture from last years shortest night, taken at 1am on the west beach of Berneray.

In the distance is the island of Pabbay.

  1. "Aha - got him" I thought "the Summer Solstice is not today it's always on 21st June". So I looked it up and, sure enough, for the first time this century it's on the 20th June and not the 21st. I guess you have plenty of time to check these things in the long hours before the night comes!

  3. I just answered my own question...in the UK, summer solstice begins this evening at 23:59. I learn something new every day.
