A Harris beach for next summer

A picture of a beach by Fiona Cownie I still haven't visited, despite living not too far away for four years and visiting the archipelago for several years before that:
the most beautiful beach in britain
That's Hushinish (there are several variations on the spelling) in Harris. Looking out of the window here at the weather, and how early it gets dark, that's one for next summer.

  1. Is that not Traigh Mheilein rather than Hushinish? With Scarp on the left and Fladaigh on the right? It's on the Hushinish peninsula but a couple of miles north of Hushinish beach which is enclosed by land of both sides. Yet another one to visit?

  2. The B887's no easy road to drive down, but the view at the end is well worth it. That bay's also the only place I've ever seen a whale in the wild!

  3. You should try doing it on a bike! Nightmare!!As you say though it's well worth the hair raising drive or extremely strenuous cycle ride you have to make in order to get there.

  4. Hushinish is gorgeous, although nerves of steel are required to navigate that road!! Nothing like as bad as the Golden Road though - I'm no nervous driver but I'm afraid I said "never again" to that one!
